New Board Members
Position of Treasurer: Mr. James R. Holmes has taken on the position of Treasurer for Friends of Hadley Park Tennis Program. James, who is known around Hadley Park during his junior years as “Ronnie.” He brings a good financial background to the Board. James received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from Samford University and has served in various capacities, including program manager and budget coordinator with the state of Tennessee. James also served as a previous board member for the Conservatorship Association of Tennessee and is a graduate of the Tennessee Board & Commission Leadership Academy.
Besides his professional career, he is great tennis player, He played all his junior years at Hadley Park as well as travelled on the Junior Tennis Circuit and played on the professional circuit for several years. He received a full tennis scholarship to Samford University in Birmingham, AL, where he graduated as the #2 player and #1 in doubles.
Position of Director of Girl’s Tennis: Ms. Amara King is an 8th grader at Brentwood Middle School and plays on the tennis team. She has been actively involved in the Friends of Hadley Park Tennis Program for 3 years. Amara is an active Girl Scouts, sings in the Choir and serves on Student Leadership forums.

Local Coach Awarded by International Organization
Hilton Head Island, SC – – Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) presented its annual awards last month during the PTR International Tennis Symposium. The event included more than 40 educational presentations for tennis coaches was held February 12-15, on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Curtis Holland, of Springfield, Tennessee, has been named PTR Member of the Year for the State. This award is presented to a member who has shown dedication and diligence in promoting and supporting tennis and PTR. A PTR Clinician and Tester, and lifetime member of the American Tennis Association, Holland has been involved in tennis for 45 years as a player, teaching pro and coach. In 2012, the courts on Garner Street were renamed the Curtis Holland Tennis Complex.
Holland is the longest tenured coach at Springfield High School, and continues to take the tennis teams to greater heights. Under his 32-year leadership, the tennis program has one of the best winning records of all Springfield High School sports.
The girls’ overall record is 272-209, including two Girls Region 5 Team Championships and two State Sectional (Elite Eight) appearances in the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association State Playoffs.
His girls have had 22 winning seasons. Holland coached nine Girls District Tournament Championship teams. The Lady Jackets won four consecutive District 19 Championships. The team also reached the Sweet Sixteen five times, and finished as District Tournament Runners-up eight times. The Lady Jackets also won 12 Regular Season District Championships.
He also coached 10 District Girls singles champions, seven singles runners-up, eight girls doubles champions, and 10 girl’s doubles runners-up. Abby Johnson is the only female player to win the District Girl’s Singles Championship twice. Holland has coached 61 girls to 102 All District.
The current overall record for Holland’s boys’ team is 253-207. The team has had 24 winning seasons, including 20 consecutive. From 1988 to 1996, the boys were undefeated in District 19 regular season in play. Holland has coached 10 boys District Tournament Championship teams, and his Jackets reached the Sweet Sixteen five times. Holland coached 11 District singles champions, seven singles runners-up, 11 doubles champions, five doubles runners-up. Forty-three of his boys were named All District 102 times.
Holland coached six players to the Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association State High School Championships. Kyle Thomas and Beau Rader won the 2002 Region 5A/AA Doubles Championship to become the first Region Individual Champions in Springfield High School history. He also coached Justin Hamm to become the first Region 5AAA Singles Champion in SHS tennis history in 2007.
PTR is the largest global organization of tennis teaching professionals with more than 16,500 members in 125 countries. It has the greatest percentage of multicultural and women members of any such organization. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and serving tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
